Location

Cecil nestles in the foothills of the majestic Himalayas at 2,200 meters above sea level, a beautiful heritage hotel situated at one end of Shimla’s famous Mall. Within walking distance the main city centre and the prestigious vice regal lodge can be found, whilst the hotel itself is on Chaura Maidan, a restricted road. (Only vehicles with local permits are allowed)

By air
There are direct flights to Shimla from Delhi and private air charters are available. The Shimla airport is only 45 minutes from the hotel. Jagson Airlines operates a 17-seater direct flight from Delhi on every alternate day. The flying time is 45 minutes. Limousine pick up can be arranged from Shimla or Chandigarh airport.

By road
Shimla is connected by road from Chandigarh: 124 kilometres, from Kalka: 110 kilometres and from Delhi: 385 kilometres. By car, the journey from Delhi to Shimla takes approximately 8 hours. The drive from Chandigarh to Shimla takes approximately 3 hours.

By rail
Fast trains run daily from Delhi to Chandigarh and Kalka. From Kalka, there are train connections on a quaint narrow gauge railway, built in 1903,to Chandigarh. The travel time is approximately 4 hours. There are number of trains to Chandigarh and Kalka. Limousine pick up can be arranged from Shimla, Kalka or Chandigarh railway stations.

The Mall

Shimla's main promenade, here, contemporary commercial enterprises stand alongside with stately colonial edifices, churches and other landmarks of the town. At one end of The Mall is the city's kaleidoscopic local market, called Lakkar Bazaar.

The Viceregal Lodge

Only a few minutes from The Oberoi Cecil, you can find the Viceregal Lodge. Built in 1888 by the British Viceroy Lord Dufferin, the Lodge houses a museum, and wonderfully laid out gardens. In its august past, it was the Rashtrapati Niwas (The President's residence). Today, it houses the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies.

Tattapani / Shiv Goofa

The hot sulphur springs renowned for its healing power, a two hours drive along the Sutlej river.

Sankat Mochan

A temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, with an impressive view of the town.

Jakhoo Hill

This is Shimla’s highest point, offering an imposing view of the town, and a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman.

Chadwick Falls

Three kms from Cecil, this rain-fed waterfall is surrounded by woods.

Kufri

An inviting ski destination in Himachal Pradesh, Kufri has tempted mountain lovers for decades. The slopes are not demanding, but the short to advanced runs are tailor-made for the enthusiast. Yak rides for children provide an added attraction.

Mashobra

Easily accessible by road, this quaint little town is a gateway to many forest walks allowing you to experience nature at its best.

Chail is built on three hills, and was the former capital of the Maharajah of Patiala. Its cricket pitch is the highest in the world, whilst the old palace and the polo grounds are a delight. It is an attractive tourist spot and an ideal place for picnics.

Naldehra Golf Course

Approximately an hour’s drive from the hotel, Viceroy Lord Curzon was so enchanted by this spot that he gave his daughter the middle name of Naldehra. Here he also created India’s first nine-hole golf course. The perfect season for golf here is between April and October.

Narkanda

On the Hindustan-Tibet Road, Narkanda gives a panoramic and spectacular view of the inner Himalayas. Apples and cherries are plentiful in the orchards near by at Kotgarh. Eight kms from Narkanda is the Hattu Peak, at a height of 3300 mts, which has several ski slopes – a beginner’s run, a slalom slope and a sharper descent for the seasoned skier.

Taradevi

Hop on to the “toy train” at Shimla and alight at Taradevi station. A trek through magnificent cedars up to Taradevi temple provides a wonderful two hour excursion with a serene environment and a magnificent view.
