The Tiger Reserve

Ranthambhore was established as a sanctuary in 1959 Ranthambore was included in the very first phase of Project Tiger in 1972, and in 1981,it achieved the status of a National Park. The park's name alludes to the 11th century fort of Ranthambhore, which is perched on a rocky outcrop within the forest. This fort was a vital citadel controlling central India. Though overrun by vegetation, remnants of the summer palaces, temples and sentinel stones within the fort can still be seen.

As the hunting reserve of the Maharajas of Jaipur, the park at Ranthambhore was once the scene of royal hunting parties. Today, it is famous for its tigers and is one of the best places in the country to see these majestic predators in their own habitat. Even during the day the tigers can be regularly spotted, preoccupied as they carry out their normal pursuits - particularly stalking or hunting and taking care of their young. With the strict measures that have been taken for their conservation, they seem quite accustomed to human presence and undisturbed by it.

Ranthambhore-Through the Year

Please notify the hotel, if you would like a private jeep for your visit to the Park, as a 60-day notice period is required by forest office regulations. Please let us know the number of jungle drives you would like to reserve and if your preference is for morning and/or afternoon drives. The Park restricts the number of jeeps entering, consequently bookings are subject to availability. Once we have your date of arrival, the hotel will make every effort to reserve a private jeep. We can guarantee a visit to the park, in a large open vehicle shared with others.
